Kerala has always been on the top to set good examples for the country and for all mankind in general.Private practice is such an issue which should be taken to the national level attention. The social progress what the entire Kerala society enjoys now is the net result of all concerted effort that had been put in the past.Social equity of progress, atleast to the base line, has been assured in Kerala which makes 'the Kerala Model' uniquely standing to the level achieved by only developed countries. The demand for abolision of priavate practice of doctors of all Medical Colleges(MCs) took its origin in 1969 with the leadership of the great visionaries like late.Dr.C.R.Soman, Dr.P.K.R.Warrier and others when they formed Kerala Government Medical College Teachers Association in 1968.In that sense it is an age old demand from the fraternity of doctors itself with an aim to take Medical Colleges to the level it actually deserves.Denial of health support facilities is not at all justified, which will become a violation fundamental rights to any Indian and also the deviation from the directive principles of the state policy as enshrined in our constitution.I understand, the common public still can avail those facilities of MCs when they are reffered to by the hospitals at Taluk or Distict levels. If we look at the other side of the story, we can learn that there are some good government hospitals which can match almost equal in its capacity to MCs but they are being unattended by both medical practitioners and the public alike, which ultimately leads to the wastage and misuse of our state resources.
Alleppey MC had witnessed some unhealthy developments a few months back.Once of the constituent parties of the ruling LDF, a coalition of the left parties and few others thinking in the same way, put the blame indirectly on the ban of private practice of the doctors in MCs, unimaginable how could they draw such a conclusion for the defeat of their candidate in the by-election of Alleppey assembly constituency. It really proves the incredibility of the so called left, or they pretending to be the one!?, and unwillingness to stand along with popular issues in a way the common man wants them to have.Wish them to realize the situation before they loose the remaining ground support. If you, the left leaders forget to make it, I would suggest you to take a look at one of the scenes in the Malayalam movie, 'Sandesam', in which (late) Sankaradi takes a discussion on the loosing situation of the their party RDP, which was portrayed as a left one.If you remember it well, the reply was 'Nammudey partikku adithara nashttapettu'.Hope the left parties, for all in this matter, realize that whatever the society wants to have, only that, will prevail in the future. If you are not ready to take a stock of the situation, critically examine and accommodate the changes it will be disastrous for all.
I pleade the political leaders of all fractions to study the social justice side of the subject.Another important aspect is that we have all mechanisms to check corruption but all it proves to be failure when one approaches a doctor(atleast doctors of MCs) for the so called better consultations.I do not belive that all doctors are alike in this regard but we should remeber one case reported in the capital city of Kerala where a doctor of Trivandrum MC was caught by the media during his ' service' at a private place.Lets take a pledge to improve the State resources for the public cause and eradicate such bad and unhealthy practices from the society forever.
